Repair progress on the Sedov and Kruzenshtern

Back
The Sedov and Kruzenshtern have been preparing for a round-the-world expedition of sailing training vessels of Rosrybolovstvo, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica, as well as the to 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The repair works are being in progress.
Currently, crew members and specialists of the Svetlyy shipyard are reparing the training sailing vessels to present them to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

During their stay at the plant (since the beginning of September) there has been an inspection of fresh water tanks, partial irennovation of accomodation and air conditioning system upgrading. Maintenance of the main and auxiliary engines will be carried out in the engine room. It is a mandatory procedure before Class Register inspection.

In addition, two new desalination plants have been installed on the Kruzenshtern to get ready for long passages in the Atlantic.

According to the plan, at the end of November both vessels should sail through the shipping channel to the Kaliningrad Sea Fishing Port where the departure ceremony is going to be organised. The ships are putting to sea in the beginning of December.

Theу expedition of the Russian sailing ships the Kruzenshtern, the Sedov and the Pallada is taking place two centuries after the famous expedition of Russian seafarers headed by Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev on the sloops Vostok and Mirny. The famous Russian pioneers sailed around the unknown ice continent at latitudes from 60° to 70° despite severe navigational conditions and irrefutably proved the existence of the land at the South Pole.
