The memorial regatta has been finished

Back
There was a strong wind in the area of the regatta, but everything ended well. Crews are resting until tomorrow.
There were a few minutes between finishes of the three sailing vessels. The symbolic 200-mile regatta, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was over on February 21, 2020.

The regatta was started on February 20, 2020 at 22.00 ship's time (February 21, 2020 at 04.00 Msk). The event was complicated by a strong wind and ocean swell. Mikhail Novikov, the POAC of the regatta ordered the Masters to steer weather permitting courses to ensure the safety of crews and vessels.

For almost a day, cadets and crew members on board of all ships were fighting for every meter of the distance. When the gale force is 7 it's a really hard task. For example, strong blasts of wind tore Pallada's five sails to pieces.

Although the Pallada had got outclassed from the start of the regatta, the heavier historical windjammers, originally designed to work in hard sea conditions, became the leaders soon. As a result, the Kruzenstern was the first to reach the specified coordinates. She crossed the finish line at 13 hours 43 min 10 sec ship time (19 hours 43 min 10 sec msk), then finished the Sedov at 13 h 58 min 08 sec ship time (19 h 58 min 08 sec msk) and at the end the frigate Pallada came fo finish at 14 h 08 min 42 sec ship time (20 h 08 min 42 sec msk).
